I really fell in love with charcoal last year when I was taking a local drawing course here in Airdrie from Jane Romanishko.
I'm not sure what it is exactly that I like so much about it. I do really enjoy black and white and love drawing portraits but it's soooo much messier than using pencils :). I think one of the main reasons I love it is that your eraser is just as much your tool for drawing as the charcoal itself.
Erasers aren't just for mistakes ;)
The left image is a quick 45min charcoal sketch I did tonight. I took the photo reference of my youngest a few months ago when we were goofing around with some excellent dollar store glasses I found :)
Thanks to my good friend Michele. Our chat this afternoon motivated me to get my sketch on ;)
