Speedy Ink Sketches
Symons Valley Ranch
February 7-9th is the last weekend that my Mountain Series will be on display at Symons Valley Ranch Market. I have to say it's been a bit of a thrill to see them all up together like that. I've made a few trips out this month ;) I am very thankful to have had the opportunity to get some more exposure for my work, this series in particular. I'll be on the lookout for more places to hang my work over the next few months. I'll keep you updated!
I spent this morning coating and stretching a few more prints to replace the ones purchased last weekend. I'll be heading out to the Ranch first thing tomorrow.
I'm glad I didn't have to travel anywhere today on these roads and was able to stay home and get a few things done that I have been putting off.
Shown below is the Eco Shield I use to protect my giclee's on canvas.
I'm quite excited about this print 'Grey Mist' and hope to get a 20x20 and 12x12 Limited Edition of 5 prints each size out to Muk Luk Magpie's in Airdrie by the end of this week.
I plan to also frame a few smaller prints to take in to Cre8ive Ways.
ARTember 2013 has kicked off today in Airdrie and I couldn't be more excited or thankful. Through the Airdrie Regional Arts Society, headed up by Glen Collin, I've been included in the ARTember Showcase which pairs up local artists and businesses for an opportunity to display local art. A BIG thank you to Michael Morris of Cora's Restaurant for letting me put up my limited edition canvas work for the month AND for the most delicious bowl of spinach cream soup the other day :) If you haven't had a chance to try out Cora's yet...what are you waiting for? <wink wink> :D
The Alberta Flood Rose Project
I feel very honoured to be part of this fundraising venture and wanted to pass along a youtube video explaining a little bit about what has been going on behind the scenes for the past month or so.
Toad n Turtle Fundraiser
The Toad n Turtle in Airdrie is hosting a fundraiser for those affected by the flood on Canada Day from noon til 9. Check out their facebook page for details. I'm donating the above print (size 8x10...framed and ready to hang) to the silent auction. If you are interested pop down for a pint and put in a bid :) Cheers!
Truly seeing in colour
I have been dropping into Jane Romanishko's art class again recently, focusing on the basics of color theory. I have never had any formal instruction in color and honestly have been quite overwhelmed when it comes to the subject. I'm thoroughly enjoying mixing watercolors and practicing purposeful combinations and the discovery process that comes with it. I feel like I'm just now beginning to understand and truly see in colour. Thank you Jane :)
This morning I had a couple of quiet hours to get out my watercolours for awhile for some practice. I love experimenting with simple colour and simple subject matter. Afterwards I snapped a few pics and did some editing on my iPhone. Double the fun :). I wonder...is this considered mixed media?
What keeps you occupied on rainy days?
I don't mind spring showers especially during our fun but hectic soccer season. A welcome break in the routine. I've got the fireplace on, kids are fed, started a few charcoal sketches of dogs I'd like to do a series of, book two of a Veronica Roth series waiting to be cracked open and a request to catch up on a couple of Glee episodes. I love a good rainy night :)
I had a chance to get out for another photo drive today in this wonderful weather. There's nothing like a full tank of gas and a couple of hours to kill to see what interesting sights I can find through the lens of my camera. A perfect afternoon :D
Growing up in Central Alberta, the Prairies will always be my home. I love to capture local landscape through photography and iPhone editing. Having the flexibility of mobile editing has been an amazingly creative tool for me. I love experimenting and learning and am excited to see what this next year will bring.
